12 Personalities We All Hoped Would Run For The Presidential Seat In 2019

If only these people had decided to run for office in 2019.
The candidates for the 2019 elections are already in the ring but there are a few people who aren’t contesting that we would have all loved to see throw their hats into the ring. Find out who they are below.

1.) Alhaji Aliko Dangote

Aliko Dangote, the CEO of Dangote Cement, is the richest man in Africa and one of the people we’d really hoped would be vying for the Presidency in 2019 but unfortunately it looks like Dangote has decided to stick to being the successful business man we all know and love.

2.) Femi Otedola

It’s Otedola with the money oh!!!

Femi Otedola, a Nigerian businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, is the chairman of Forte Oil PLC and one of the personalities we would have loved to see in the 2019 presidential race. Otedola, however, threw his hat into the ring for the Lagos state gubernatorial election but was not chosen by his party, PDP, during the primaries.

We think Otedola would have certainly gained the youth vote with the influence of his social media savvy daughters Temi and Cuppy who always seem to be trending on social media.

3.) Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli (MFR)

Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli is one impressive woman.

She is a Co-Founder of Sahel Consulting and serves as its managing partner. She has 22 years of experience in international development and has shaped agriculture strategy and policy in West Africa.

She is also the co-founder of AACE Foods, a social enterprise which processes nutritious food made from the best of West Africa’s cereals, herbs, pulses and spices, and the founder of LEAP Africa which works across Africa inspiring, empowering and equipping the next generation of dynamic, principled and innovative young leaders.

Wouldn’t it have been great to have someone with this much expertise in Agriculture and an interest in the growth of the Nigerian youth running for President in 2019?

4.) Dr. Mike Adenuga

Mike Adenuga is a Nigerian business magnate and the second richest man in Nigeria. He founded Globacom, the second largest mobile phone network in Nigeria, and Conoil Producing, which operates six oil blocks in the Niger Delta. Adenuga has made a name for himself in telecom and oil production and we believe he would do a great job in the presidential hot seat but it looks like he has no interest in trying his hand in politics anytime soon.

5.) Tony O. Elumelu

Tony Elumelu is a Nigerian economist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank for Africa, Transcorp and founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation. Elumelu holds the Nigerian national honours, the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

Elumelu has helped many entrepreneurs achieve their dreams through the Tony Elumelu Foundation and with a keen eye for business and investment opportunities he would have been the right man to push Nigeria into the new age.

Maybe he’ll run next time.

6.) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

If you haven’t heard of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie please kindly leave here. This article is not for you. If you have heard of Chimamanda then chances are you either love her or hate her. Chimamanda is an award-winning Nigerian writer who lends her voice to the feminist struggle and often times find herself being criticised for her views and opinions.

However, there’s no doubt in our minds that Chimamanda would make for a great leader and we all know she’s already got the feminists in her corner.

7.) Dr. Joe Abah

Dr. Joe Abah is a popular personality on Nigerian Twitter with an audience of over 95,000 followers he’s a voice that the youth will certainly turn to. Joe Abah began his career as a lawyer before going into public service in the UK.

Joe Abah was at the centre of the reform of public services in the UK for a number of years, before returning to Nigeria in 2003 to work on and run a number of programmes for the Department for International Development (DFID).

His impressive resume and good rapport with the youth is one of the reasons we believe he would have made a great candidate for the presidency.

8.) Yul Edochie

Yul Edochie would have been able to gather the youth vote if he’d decided to run for president in 2019. The Nigerian actor is no stranger to political ambition, back in 2017 he contested in the Anambra state gubernatorial elections but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make it to the finish line.

Yul embodies charisma and class that the ladies love, so he probably would have gotten the female vote as well. Having to listen to that sexy baritone on the news wouldn’t have hurt one bit.

9.) Onyeka Onwenu

Onyeka Onwenu is one strong woman. She is a musician, songwriter, journalist and politician. Onyeka Onwenu’s reputation precedes her.

She has served as an Executive Director at the National Centre for Women Development, as the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture, and was once a member of the National Television Authority Board.

Onyeka Onwenu has always been a great asset to the society, in 2003 she received the National Award – MFR (Member of the Federal Republic) and this is just one of the many reasons we would have loved to see her running for president in 2019.

Nigeria needs a new face and a female president doesn’t sound too shabby right about now.

10.) Don Jazzy

Michael Collins Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy is one person we think would look good as the president of Nigeria. Don Jazzy has successfully run two record labels which have redefined the music industry in Nigeria. His expertise in building successful businesses will surely help him to run a country like Nigeria should he decide to run for office.

It helps that Don Jazzy has a fun loving attitude which we could really use in a president, not every day serious talk, sometimes Nigerians need to laugh.

11.) Ahmed Musa

Are you even a Nigerian if you don’t know Ahmed Musa?

Ahmed Musa is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward and left winger for Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr and the Nigeria national team. He made a name for himself by becoming the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Musa is also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring twice against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After his groundbreaking performance at the World Cup, Musa for president became the slogan on the lips of every Nigerian because at the end of the day he can actually score a goal, unlike some people.

12. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

Croatia has a slay mama as a President so why can’t we in Nigeria step into the future with our slay king Ebuka as the president. Ebuka is already the people’s favourite, we love to see him slay in his impressive agbadas and tuxedos. We all love it when Ebuka steps out for any function because we already know he’s going to be bringing the slay. Imagine having a president that would never disappoint in the fashion department? Our very own Slay Zaddy for President!

However, it’s not just the superficial that has us crushing on Ebuka, he’s a trained lawyer and a badass media personality with numerous awards under his belt who has made a name for himself in the Nigerian media industry.

It also helps that he has one of those smiles that light up the room.
