Eight students stabbed with syringe in ‘prank’

New South Wales authorities on Thursday said several Sydney high school students were rushed to the hospital for blood tests after they were stabbed by a fellow student.

The authorities said the student stabbed them with a syringe picked up from a bus stop.

NSW police said in a statement that they had been told a pupil was “doing what appeared to be a prank involving a needle.’’
Eight pupils received a “minor needle prick” and were being tested for infections.

Ambulance officials told the national broadcaster, ABC, that the alleged offender had picked up the syringe from a bus stop in Plumpton, about 45 kilometres west of Sydney.

Police are, however, investigating and will speak to the student.
