Professor Farzad Sharifian death was announced in a statement by Australian Linguistic Society that read:
We’re saddened to hear of Prof. Farzad Sharifian’s passing today.
Farzad was a leader in multidisciplinary Cultural Linguistics. He completed a PhD in Applied Linguistics at ECU in 2003 and was Chair of Cultural Linguistics at Monash, winning awards and funding for his research.
Today we sadly learned about the unexpected death of Prof. Farzad Sharifian.
He was an Iranian linguist, was a pioneer in Cultural Linguistics & held the Chair in Cultural Linguistics at Monash Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.
We express our deepest condolence for his Monash Linguistics and Applied Linguistics colleagues and family.
The Monash linguistics community has learned today of the sudden and unexpected death of our valued colleague Professor Farzad Sharifian. We pass this news on with great sadness and extend our condolences to all those who, like us, valued Farzad personally and professionally.
