Keven Teague died after suffering complications from pancreatic cancer, which he developed from smoke inhalation as a firefighter.

Keven Teague death:

Captain Keven Teague, before his death, was a 24 year veteran with the Fort Worth Fire Department. He was a Captain at Station 16 in the Lake Como community.

On May 10, 2019 Keven was diagnosed with, a very aggressive and advanced stage of liver and pancreatic cancer. He was on hospice care since his diagnosis before his death.

His sad passing was announced by the Fort Worth Professional Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 440 President Michael Glynn who said in a news release Capt. Teague served in the Fort Worth Fire Department for more than 23 years.

He is survived by his wife, Deedra and their two children – a son Rhys 9 and daughter Penelope 6.

The news release by IAFF Local 440 President Michael Glynn  explained why Teague’s death is considered a line-of-duty death, The statement reads:

Chapter 607 of the Texas Government Code states that a firefighter who suffers from cancer resulting in death is presumed to have developed the cancer during the course and scope of employment as a firefighter if they regularly responded on the scene to calls involving fires or firefighting and their cancer is known to be associated with firefighting or exposure to heat, smoke, radiation, or a known or suspected carcinogen.

Capt. Teague’s pancreatic cancer is known to be associated with fire fighting or exposure to heat, smoke, radiation, or a known or suspected carcinogen.

Pancreatic cancer is a type of cancer that may be caused by exposure to heat, smoke, radiation, or a known or suspected carcinogen as determined by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

The GoFundMe page set up prior to Keven Teague death to help his family pay for medical expenses had raised over $35,000 of the needed $100,000. See the page here.
