Letitia Wright and John Boyega are two of the most beloved black actors in Hollywood – thanks to their roles in Black Panther and Star Wars.
It’s not every time we get to see people of colour as the lead characters in sci-fi movies, and this is why the roles they played in these movies are important. Letitia Wright and John Boyega have been cast to play lovers in upcoming sci-fi film, Hold Back The Stars.
Described as “Romeo and Juliet meets Gravity“, the movie will follow a man and a woman who reflect on their relationship while trapped in space with only 90 minutes of oxygen remaining. Hold Back The Stars, an adaptation of Katie Khan’s novel of the same name will be directed by Mike Cahill.
We’ve said it before there is a gradual paradigm shift in the representation of black characters in Hollywood. Granted, Black Panther changed the game with its portrayal of black women and black love. However, seeing two visibly black characters as lovers in a sci-fi movie comes as a pleasant surprise.
While no release date is yet to be announced, we’ll definitely keep you posted as soon as we get a trailer!
