MotoXAddicts announced Ryan Capes death in a post on Facebook that read:

This is so sad. RIP Ryan Capes! I’m told former world record holder for the longest jump died today at 40 years old.

No details yet, but a friend of mine Randy Futral said he talked to Ryan’s mother.

We’ve known Ryan for 20+ years and are blown away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ryan’s family.

Professional motorcycle rider Ryan Capes cause of death is not public at this time. He was the one-time world record holder for long-distance motorcycle jump, a world record he had set in November 2008 when he jumped 391 feet on a motorcycle.

Capes performed the jump on a Kawasaki 450.

Ryan Capes first set a world record, of 310 feet and four inches, in October 2005. His record was broken in June 2012 by teenager Alex Harvill who achieved a distance of 425 feet.
