Lionti leaves behind his wife Kristin and son, Nicholas Lionti, who appeared onstage as an extra on the Met stage in “Nixon in China” and “Macbeth.”

The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra announced violist Vincent Lionti death in a statement that read:
“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of one of our own. Vincent Lionti passed away due to complications related to Covid-19.
‘Vinnie’ joined the viola section of the MET Orchestra in 1987. We offer our condolences to his family & friends. We’ll miss you, Vinnie.”
His funeral plans are yet to be announced by his family. We will share updates as we learn more.

A beloved member of the orchestra since 1987, Vincent held Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Juilliard School and was a mentor to young musicians. Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, friends and colleagues.

Vincent Lionti was a good man. He was a teacher of mine back when I attended
@UsdanArts as a kid. He conducted the string and symphony orchestras and was a great friend to the viola students like myself. He will be dearly missed.
