Jay Janssen missing update: Jay Janssen has been found safe at home and a U.S. Coast Guard search for the “missing boater” called off.
Fears that the Peoria attorney was missing from a boat off of Florida were sparked after on a newscast late Wednesday afternoon, WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Fla., reported he apparently had vanished somewhere in the 90 miles of sea between Marco Island and Key West.
The Coast Guard Station at Fort Myers Beach had earlier tweeted in search for information about “an overdue boater named Jay Janssen, 83 who was on a trip from Key West, FL to Marco Island, FL on the white, 48-foot yacht, Quixotic.”

Turns out what happened was Jay Janssen was just out of cell-phone range to his wife Joan Janssen. When she could not reach him, she called a friend who advised her to call the Coast Guard.
Janssen was found in his craft, 15 miles from Marco Island not long after the Coast Guard made the initial tweet reporting him missing.
